Description

Patient education is fundamental in rehabilitation by PT/OT professionals. Consequently therapists and assistants can aid patients in differentiating the hype from what may help when recovering from injury and surgery, managing degenerative neuromusculoskeletal conditions, and improving functional impairments.

• Key foods and their benefits for the brain, joints, bones, muscles, nerves, and the gut relevant to neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation including PT/OT plans of care and interventions
• Overview of macronutrients, micronutrients, and phytonutrients
• Importance of chewing and hydration
• Common single-nutrient supplements (at least 12!)
• Over-the-counter products advertised for brain function, pain, eye conditions, sleep, and joint health
• Considerations when choosing a supplement
• Strategies to maximize absorption of nutrients
• Resources for evidence-informed patient education and support

Objectives

By the completion of the workshop you will be able to:

1. Apply basic nutrient benefits to patient care.
2. Discuss the hype vs help of "super foods" and supplements.
3. Describe therapeutic uses of selected foods as presented.
4. Reinforce the importance of chewing and hydration.
5. Discuss key concepts about supplementation.
6. Assist patients with questions to ask their physicians, non-physician practitioners or other medical and healthcare providers.

Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per session, is refunded if notice of cancellation is received more than 10 days in advance of the CE event. Cancellations made less than 10 days in advance of the CE event date forfeit the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual or another CE event, one time only. No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the CE event, or when handouts or other CE event materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.

Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the CE event up to one week prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the CE event tuition.
