Description

Headaches and migraine are complex yet simple and unique yet common. A functional medicine approach involves looking for root causes and addressing the whole person, not just symptoms so this new virtual workshop emphasizes interventions including key components of nutrition and lifestyle education combined with manual therapy so this approach is the best of both worlds!

Through lecture, Q&A, and small group activities, learn how interventions for acute care of headaches and educational strategies to enable patients and clients to prevent and manage recurrent headaches. Patient and client examples will be interspersed throughout this workshop including specific hands-on treatment techniques and effective lifestyle modifications.

This workshop pairs well with Headache Assessment.

Topics

• Understanding different types of headaches without being dependent on diagnostic labels
• Diet, nutrition, and lifestyle modification education as a component of treatment of headaches
• Overview of medications with potential nutrient depletion that may be associated with headaches
• Pearls from pain neuroscience education (PNE)
• Specific manual therapy sequences with virtual lab time
• Overview of toxin exposure and detoxification relevant to our treatment of headaches
• When to involve other practitioners such as dentists, TMJ specialists, ENTs, and PCPs

Objectives

By the completion of the course you will be able to:

1. Compare and contrast functional medicine to conventional medicine.
2. Discuss wellness strategies that address lifestyle modification associated with headaches.
3. Perform a sequences of manual techniques to assess and treat cervicogenic, scapulogenic, and cranial symptoms.
4. Describe 3 strategies for self-management of headache pain.

Sheryl Poremba, PT, CCM

Sheryl focuses on the practical, most direct treatments for her patients to see immediate results.  Her exceptional clinical experience and teaching background enables her to actively involve her patients in their treatment program.  Sheryl has used several key tools/props extensively in acute care, home health, and outpatient settings, including a variety of foam rolls, the Magic Circle, yoga blocks, straps, and STM tools.  She has introduced them to hundreds of clinicians during the last 30 years to help them individualize treatment with every patient.

No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the workshop or course, or when handouts or other CE materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the course or workshop up to 3 days prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the course or workshop tuition.
