Core Functional Testing and Training

Description
Our "core" -- It is a biomechanical segment for stabilization yet
its mobility is vital to function. Consider the numerous approaches
of PNF, Pilates, yoga, Feldenkrais, movement impairment systems,
martial arts, and virtually any contact sport; "core" training is
an integral piece. Therapeutic activities and neuromuscular
re-education are key components of physical therapy and occupational
therapy when addressing the "core" so in this new half day virtual
workshop, a very practical, patient-oriented model will emphasize
"core" interventions for optimal trunk and spine function based on
functional testing.
This workshop pairs well with Top to Bottom Core.

- Functional tests specific to "core" stabilization
- Specific "core" sequences and progressions for seated patients
- Examination, facilitation, and training of key muscles of postural control and stability
- Evidence-informed interventions that maximize patient adherence

- Verbal and tactile cues, modifications, precautions, and rationale for selection of exercise/activity/movement that demonstrate skilled intervention
- Key template phrases for efficient documentation and showing improvement
Objectives
By the completion of this course you will be able to correctly:
- Perform and grade functional strength tests for "core" stabilization.
- Identify at least one purpose, cue, and progression for exercise/activity/movement interventions performed during virtual lab sessions.
- Incorporate simple biofeedback techniques to enhance neuromuscular re-education.
- Describe how optimal postural alignment, breathing, and extremities are facilitators.

Sheryl focuses on the practical, most direct treatments for her patients to see immediate results. Her exceptional clinical experience and teaching background enables her to actively involve her patients in their treatment program. Sheryl has used several key tools/props extensively in acute care, home health, and outpatient settings, including a variety of foam rolls, the Magic Circle, yoga blocks, straps, and STM tools. She has introduced them to hundreds of clinicians during the last 30 years to help them individualize treatment with every patient.
With a strong foundation in PNF from Northwestern University (PT school) and the Institute of Physical Art, Sheryl has added the Pilates Method and principles of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons to her rehab, exercise, and movement repertoire. She has also been incorporating ...

Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per

the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual
or another course or workshop, one time only. No transfer, refund or
credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the workshop
or course, or when handouts or other CE materials are available
electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the course or workshop
up to 3 days prior to the course. Rehab Connections will
not be responsible for any charges incurred by the
registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other
than the course or workshop tuition.
